OCALA RADIO CONTROLLED CAR CLUB

SEPTEMBER 17, 1998

Here’s the latest "hello" from the Ocala track. How do you like the friendly waving guys on the border? Friendly, aren’t they. Needless to say, I’ve run out of tricks on this program, so I’m gonna need some more training....unless someone else would like to do the job! Don’t be shy, VOLUNTEER!

The most recent meeting was held on Wednesday September 16th. Thank goodness most everyone ignores the dates in the newsletter and keeps up with CORRECT information. Meetings are held on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. October’s meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on October 21st. Those individuals at the last meeting were Trevor; Matt; Danny; Bill Hamilton; Susan; Bonita; Scott; Carl; Travis and Dave Scrambling. Please plan to attend the next meeting.

CORRECTIONS: The meetings are on Wednesdays.

Plaques for the November Region 4 race are being purchased for positions 1-10 in the A mains and 1-3 for the B mains.

Hey, we got a donation from Mason of a poof-load of body clips. Everyone knows Mason, they just don’t know his name is Mason. I will point him out to everyone the next time he is at the track. He is a hard worker, but has yet to race his vehicle! We’ll get him out there one of these days. We also got another useful donation of a laptop computer carry-bag. Now we just need to get that bleeding laptop working again. Thanks to Bill Hamilton, Bill’s mom and Bill’s sister Susan for the use of their personal laptop. They are some of our most active "behind the scenes" folks and we can’t thank enough. We love free stuff, so keep it coming.

Speaking of free stuff, we are possibly looking for a cheap and/or free source for 3" schedule 40 PVC pipe to rework the track with. There is a workday scheduled for OCTOBER 10TH AND 11TH. We are getting new clay, new supplies and a brand NEW TRACK LAYOUT just in time for the November Region 4 race. Come early to practice on our new and improved raceway.

We are going to really adhere to a more structured race schedule.

The schedule is as follows: Registration will close at 11:30: a driver’s meetin9 will be held at 11:45 and races will start at 12:00 PROMPTLY.

Winter will be here soon and we need to get on schedule to avoid the darkness that is going to start creeping in earlier and earlier. I realize that lately, I’ve been the last one to show up in a timely manner, but, I swear I’ll start getting there on time! And if I can get there on time, SO CAN YOU!!! Feel free to E-mail your registrations.

The latest lowdown on the November Region 4 race is that we are getting Midnight II motors for the big day. Matt is still getting these worked out and will order them as soon as we get a good head count. The shirts and plaques will also be handled this way. So currently, it’s HURRY UP AND WAIT!

While we are on the subject of HEAD COUNT, REGISTRATIONS ARE POURING IN. HURRY TO RESERVE YOUR SPOT. PLEASE MAIL YOUR REGISTRATION FORMS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. You know the forms, they are the unmanly (or so I’m told by some so-called Men!) color of lilac. I don’t think I’ll be in charge of registration form paper the next time, as everyone hated my choice. Hey, when you’ve got a female at the helm, you gotta deal with some feminine stuff!

Remember Sam Hand and his dad that used to race the oval tract so well??? Well, Sam ran it well, while his dad did a great pit-crew job. Anyway, the club is interested in getting in touch with these folks, but our record keeping in the past was lacking and his membership application with address and phone number is not available. Please notify me if you know how to find him! The club needs your help (please and thank-you).

The newest sponsors for the Region 4 race are Taco Bell and R.J. Gators. R.J. Gators is a new local restaurant that is on S.R. 200. Susan says the place is fabulous and Bill says they have some sort of potent libation that comes in a bucket that he likes. I think our newest addition to the newsletter will be restaurant rating by Susan and Bill. Hmmmmm

Newest members are Jim Pfeiffer, Wayne Dublis and Max Sternemann. Thanks, guys. You too can become a member of the O.R.C.C.C.! See Bonita or Carl. JOIN NOW!!!

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS THE HOME DEPOT CLASSY CHASSIS TO BE HELD ON SEPTEMBER 26TH. TREVER IVERSON AND COMPANY ARE SETTING UP A ROADCOURSE AND OVAL TRACK IN THE PARKING LOT OF THE HOME DEPOT STORE. ALL CLASSES OF RACERS ARE ASKED TO JOIN IN AND RUN WHATEVER TYPE OF VEHICLE YOU BRING. ALL REGISTRATION MONEY GOES TO THE CHARITY THAT THE CLASSY CHASSIS FOLKS HAVE DESIGNATED. NO RACES WILL BE HELD AT OUR RACE SITE. Everyone is asked to participate. It’s a great opportunity to be seen by trillions of folks that the classic car people can bring to such an event. Set up is at 8 AM sharp. The races will begin at 10 or 10:30 AM. $10 for each class is higher than our regular race fee for members, but this is for a CHARITY!!! TOTAL DONATION OF ALL MONEY. Trophies will be awarded to those that attend. Call Trevor at 245-5755 so that he can get a feel for help and/or attendance.

PLEASE JOIN US FOR A FUN DAY OF RACING TO SHOW OFF WHAT WE’VE GOT!!!

That’s all I’ve got. Thanks for all the help and support from all our racers and non-racers. I apologize in advance for any errors or omissions. I seem to make plenty. Please feel free to call me at home or E-mail ORCCC@iname.com.
