There is so much going on at the track; I’m in a hurry to get this
newsletter out. So, sit back and read fast, ‘cause so much is happening
at the best little R/C car club in Ocala that you might miss it if you
take too long!
DATES OF IMPORTANCE FROM THE LAST NEWSLETTER:
GRAND OPENING OCTOBER 7th. The day will include prizes, food and
fun. Here’s the deal, you need to check in with the concession area upon
arrival. At that time, we will take your name and address in exchange for
a ticket. The ticket serves two purposes. One, you can use the ticket for
a free meal of a hot dog (yep, just like mom used to make), chips and a
drink. Throughout the day we will be picking tickets (and sometimes our
nose) to win prizes donated from local and R/C related businesses. There’s
more!!! The day’s activities also include free racing. Folks new to the
sport can try their luck and equipment for the first time, regulars can
enjoy a Saturday of racing and Florida State Off-Road racers can get a day’s
worth of practice in right before the series begins… AND IT’S ALL
FREE!!!! Festivities begin at 9 AM and racing begins at 12 Noon. We encourage all R/Cers to
attend our presentation to the world of the best little R/C car club in
Ocala!!
FLORIDA STATE OFF-ROAD SERIES RACE OCTOBER 15th. The
ORCCC will host the first race of the 2000-2001 Florida State Off-Road
Series on October 15th. This race will also be the location of
the 1999-2000 Series trophy presentation. We are hoping to have a huge
turnout so we can show off our new A2Z Race Park! Plans are slowly
forming, click here for the latest
information. We’ve decided on the schedule of races as follows: Friday
practice 5:30 PM until 10:00 PM. Saturday practice 8:00 AM until 3:30 PM.
Saturday night club racing starting at 4:00 PM open to all racers, members
and non-members and registration for same available all day. Sunday’s
State Series race begins at 10:15 a.m. (registration closes at 9 a.m.)and continues until the fat lady
sings!
NO RACING AT THE ORCCC ON OCTOBER 21st, ‘cause the
previous two weekends are going to have us in an R/C coma!! Racers fear
not though, because the prez has cooked up something for you for that day.
Tom Hitchcock has talked to the guys at the new Daytona race site and they’ve
got a plan to make sure you get your Saturday race fix! The Ocala gang is
going to caravan to Daytona and race the Daytona guys in a challenge
match! It’s all for fun (and trophies) and a chance to get out of Ocala
for some dirt slinging fun. Call Tom if you are interested so he can let
you in on the whole plan of action. Tom’s number is 369-8309.
NOW FOR THE NEW STUFF:
Our latest meeting was held on September 21st. Attendees
were Susan Danvers, Christian Ginter, Fletcher Grosz, Melanie Stalnaker,
Carl Ross, Danny Mayer, Jeremy Farr, Tom Hitchcock, Mason McCombs, Bill
Hamilton and myself. The next meeting will be held at the track on
Thursday, October 19th at 7:30. THERE WILL BE A LAST
MINUTE PLANNING MEETING ON WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 27th AT 7:30
to finalize everything for the grand opening and Off-Road Series race.
PLAN TO ATTEND BOTH MEETINGS.
The new port-a-john is here! The new port-a-john is here! We’ve
switched services and obtained a cost effective "port-a-condo"
for your restroom enjoyment. There is even a new location! The new
restroom is no longer in the path of the draining track (can you say
thirty-two tons of clay on your shoes trying to get to the toilet?), but
kinda behind the air compressor/concession/sink building. There’s even
talk of putting a light in it so you can truly appreciate how gross this
sort of facility is! Nothing’s too good for our racers and friends!
(P.S.- I hear the new john is soooo big, Carl Ross is thinking of using it
as an enclosed pit area!! Now that’s BIG).
Here’s that latest list of things to accomplish before Tom Hitchcock
spouts an aneurysm:
· We’ve got our third welder
checking out the driver’s stand. Our goal is to fix the current
stairs, add 3-5 feet to the top, with another set of stairs coming down
the other side. After that is done, the computer area will be completed.
There is still hope of getting this done before the grand opening, so
keep your fingers crossed.
· Melanie, Fletcher, James Grosz
and Rob May have started (and almost finished already) on the behind the
building clean up. All the spare parts and trash have been located to
their proper places and the dismantling of the greenhouse has begun.
Really take a look around the next time you are there, these few people
are kicking butt and taking names! The rest of us should feel really
guilty, ‘cause you know we are not doing our fair share. CALL TOM
HITCHCOCK TO FIND OUT HOW TO HELP RID YOURSELVES OF THIS DAMAGING
GUILT!!! I say, be healed! Tom’s number is 369-8309.
· The concession building needs
roof repairs. We always knew we had a small leak; then we cleaned off
the 4 billion years of rotting foliage from the roof and now we have
Niagara Falls. Really, it’s only a small hole (thanks to a falling
spear limb) that can be quickly fixed. Roofers, anyone??
NOTE: Due to the understanding of A2Z’s owner, Tom Peak, we’ve been
given the okay to do work at the site on non-race days (i.e. Monday,
Tuesday and Thursday), after 5:30 PM. PLEASE CALL TOM IF YOU HAVE A FEW
MINUTES OF SPARE TIME TO HELP OUT IN GETTING THE SITE IN TIP TOP SHAPE! Tom’s
number is still 369-8309.
The new race site has quite a few permanent covered pit areas. Only one
of these sites is considered a community pit and that’s the one between
the computer stand and the air compressor. Racers have used their own
money and time set up all the other sites. Please make arrangements in
advance with these folks if you are interested in sharing their pit area.
If you use any of these pit areas and tables at any time, have the
courtesy to clean them up when you are finished. That means clean the
tables of nitro fuel and clay and pick all the trash off the ground. Thank
you and have a nice day.
The worker bees of the ORCCC (so much work done by so few people…guilt,
guilt, guilt) have really got the place looking nice and tidy. PLEASE MAKE
AN EFFORT TO KEEP IT THAT WAY. Whether you are racing, practicing or
helping work around the site, make sure you clean up after yourself! That
means tools, unused materials and equipment all needs to put where it
belongs. Unlike the McPherson Complex site, this site is located on a
business. The owner and employees of A2Z Pest Control see the area every
day and I can tell you, they are not going to stand for the place looking
like the night after the fair left town. Please throw your trash in the
trash can (come see us in concessions if you would like a bag to keep in
your pit area for the night) and do your part in picking up and cleaning
up while you are enjoying the awesome race site built for your racing
enjoyment!
Gadzooks, this has been a harpy newsletter, but I’ve got more to nag
about, so hold on! The message board can be read by anyone with Internet
access. That includes racers, non-racers, businesses (past and future ones
with donations!) and probably 80% of the world’s population. If you’ve
got an issue with another racer or the club, please handle it in person
and NOT ON THE MESSAGE BOARD. The club has so much to be proud of, that it
is a shame that we look like a bunch of whackos to anyone reading the
message board. There have been rumblings to have Bill remove the message
board, but he insists it is a great communication medium. This is an
excellent point if it is used properly (and dang, Mason IS funny), so
clean it up folks and keep the riotous and informative postings flowing.
We’ve really got a great thing going, judging by the number of
attendees at the track and the distance they are traveling to get here.
Please join us often for some great fun.
Late
Breaking News:
Since the writing of this newsletter, a lot has been happening at A2Z
Race Park. The expansion of the drivers stand has been
completed, the improvements to the computer room are nearly finished and the
closed circuit camera system will be up and running in time for the Grand
Opening! There are even more improvements that have either been done
or are being done at this time. The site is REALLY coming together!
Thanx to all of
the long, hard hours of work being put in by everyone including our many sponsors
and local businesses, we just might make it. We have also been receiving some GREAT stuff
from all of the manufacturers, distributors and local businesses to give
away at our Grand Opening. This event will truly be something for
EVERYONE, not just the R/C racers in the family!
