March 29, 1999
Here it is, the edition weve all been waiting for. Most
of you already know the name we choose for our mascot mutt, as we announced it at the race
held March 27th, 1999. "Glitch" was the winning submission sent in by
Ocala racer, Dave Scrambling. Congratulations, Dave! Dave is the proud recipient of the
prize package worth well under $10,000, he will receive a 6 month membership and tokens
for 5 free races. The next contest has already been announced on the web page, its
the logo contest. You see, the ORCCC has not had it's logo updated since Methusala was a
twinkle in his Daddy's eye! We need your ideas. Design a logo for the ORCCC. This logo
will be used on ALL official club "stuff" to include the web site, letterhead,
awards, t-shirts, etc. Nothing overly complicated, please. The logo should include
"ORCCC", "Ocala R/C Car Club" or something to that effect as well as,
obviously, R/C related propaganda. You can submit your ideas by e-mail, snail mail, or
giving them to us at the track on race days. Our mailing address is ORCCC, PO Box 70166,
Ocala, FL 34470. This contest will end on April 21, 1999. Sharpen those pencils
& get 'em workin'! Maybe you will have the successful entry and have your name in this
prestigious location like Dave. The prize package for this contest will be announced at a
later time, so submit, submit, submit!
The latest club meeting was held on March 17, 1999. Attendants included Danny
Mayer, Randy Bost, Carl Ross, Mason McCombs, Bill Hamilton and myself. We chowed down on
pizza from 5 Star Pizza and had a rip-roaring time watching Danny tip himself out of his
chair not once but twice. Theres no telling what will be on the menu and the
entertainment roster next month, so plan to attend the next meeting at A 2 Z pest control
on April 21st at 7 PM promptly.
Let me start off by getting my complaining over and done with. YOU WILL NOT RACE
IN A CLASS UNTIL THE MONEY FOR YOUR REGISTRATION FEE IS RECEIVED. NO EXCEPTIONS! Clear,
precise, to the point and self-explanatory.
We are still looking for volunteers to run the races periodically to give a us
break every now and again. If you know someone with a few free Saturdays, let us know. You
dont need to be computer literate, as the program is fairly easy to use. A possible
solution might be for a team of two racers to forfeit racing one time per year. One could
run the computer while the other one acts as race director. WE NEED A BREAK GUYS! SO THINK
OF A SOLUTION!
We have submitted a request to host the Florida oval race this year. Well
keep you posted as to the status of that event. Our plan is to get folks jazzed about our
cool oval track. Ive called a few places about getting the asphalt re-sealed or
whatever it takes to make a smooth track, so that we can get that done before the race
day. We will need helpers in making this another smash-up ORCCC hosted event, so let me
know what you would like to do to help. Dont make me call you at home and beg!!
The ORCCC web site is up and running and its AWESOME! So far our site has
attracted over 1000 visitors as of Wednesday, March 24th. Weve had hits
from all over the United States, as well as 6 foreign countries and the folks at NASA have
even paid us a visit! Join in the fun and excitement! In case you dont already know,
the address for the site is http://orccc.cjb.net. This address will change pretty soon, as we have registered for our own
domain name. That new address will be www.orccc.org. Well let you know when its official. This change will also
allow us to offer members personalized e-mail addresses (you know, like
BigDaddy@orccc.org). All of our hats are off to our Webmaster, Bill for his fine work. We
didnt know he had it in him and we are really proud!
The new laptop computer is up and running. We will sell the old laptop, in a
manner not yet decided on, as soon as the sound card is repaired.
The web-site will soon have a classified page for buying, selling and trading
R/C related items. Check the site to find out the status of this newest addition.
WEVE MADE A CHANGE TO OUR MEMBERSHIP PROGRAM! We will now offer a 3 month
membership for $10; a 6 month membership for $15; an annual membership for $24; a renewal
membership (renewal means you were a member the proceeding year) for $20 and a lifetime
membership for $75. See the "membership application" of the web-site to apply in
the comfort of your own home. Hope to see you as a member soon!
THE ORCCC WILL BE HOSTING THE LAST RACE OF THE FLORIDA OFF-ROAD RACE SERIES
ON JULY 10TH. Plan to attend and plan to help us run another quality race! THE ORCCC WILL BE HOSTING THE LAST RACE OF THE FLORIDA OFF-ROAD RACE SERIES

Due to popular demand (and the stinking heat of Florida), we will not be racing
during the months of July and August. The only race we will host is the Florida State
series race noted above. We may unofficially race at night at various local sites. Keep in
touch and well keep you in the know.
We are looking for ideas on how to get our club more exposure here in Ocala.
Many good ideas were brought up at the meeting, such as an "adopt a highway"
deal and drive-a-thon for the March of Dimes similar to the walk-a-thon. Let us know what
you think and plan on helping us put your ideas into action! You would be surprised how
many folks in Ocala dont even know we exist! The more people who know, the more
likely they are to join our fabulous sport.
Hey, guess what! You know the famous Spam can on the web-site? Well, our very
own Danvers family (Susan, Megan and Melissa) spotted the same can at the Winn Dixie on US
27. It was a life-sized can of Spam that walked, talked and shook hands. Actually, the
girls were convinced the can was manned by their very own Uncle Bill (aka "Computer
Dude")! Let someone at ORCCC headquarters know if you catch a glimpse of the famous
can of Spam!
Another BIG THANKS goes to Mason McCombs and Max Sternemann. They worked
on the off-road track after the race on March 13th until 7 PM! The only
nourishment they had was a couple of Pepsis, a couple of Mt. Dews and a slab of left over
birthday cake! Can you imagine those two after that much sugar! Who needs a tractor! The
last of the work was done by the light from their car headlights, such dedication. We
thank them for a great job.
ELECTIONS ARE COMING SOON. We are checking the official rules and
regulations from our corporate charter which governs the elections process for the club.
My personal opinion, is that we go back to the one year term set up. We havent
decided how the voting will be processed, but that is secondary to the need for
nominations for various positions. If you are interested in holding a board position, let
me know and Ill get the word out. If you know someone who might be interested, let
me know and Ill check with that person. The positions available and the nominees
will be listed in the next newsletter to get you ready to ROCK THE VOTE!
