The July meeting was held On July 16th at the A to Z pest
control office site. Those in attendance were Susan Danvers, Bonita and Scott Lair, Bill
Lair and Carl Ross. Many changes or clarifications were brought up so read this issue
very carefully!!!
The alternate race schedule will remain in effect until September. It is entirely too
hot to race and the summer is usually full of other duties and vacations. We will have
races on August 8th & 22nd. We will not have races on August 1st, 15th or 29th. registration
opens at 11AM and Races start at 12 AM. Tentatively, we are planning to return to an
every Saturday schedule beginning on September 5th.
Due to popular demand, the club meetings will go back to meeting on Wednesdays.
Attendance has plummeted for our Thursday gatherings and this change is to bring back
attendance. THE NEXT
CLUB MEETING WILL BE HELD ON WEDNESDAY AUGUST 19TH.
Preparations for the Region 40ff road race to be held in Ocala on November 7th &
8th need to get into full swing. So far, the registration forms are being created by
Bonnie and need to go out as quickly as I can determine how to get a mailing list for ROAR
members in Region 4. Registrations will also be mailed to each club within the Region 4
area as provided by REV UP magazine. Susan Danvers has obtained a mailing list of all
hobby shops in Florida off of the internet. The total was 207, but we are narrowing them
down to RIO type hobby shops. We will mail registration forms to these folks, too.
We are going to apply for sponsorship, cash awards, door prizes or anything we can beg
from the manufacturers listed in R/O Action magazine. Our application for sponsorship will
contain a cover letter explaining that sponsorship will get an advertisement at the track,
an advertisement on the registration forms and the undying love of a bunch of yahoos in
Florida! What more could they ask for?? We are also sending a letter to all the
moderate/cheap priced hotel/motels asking for a special rate that we can offer to our race
participants. As always, anyone with connections or a willingness to help us achieve
our goals is encouraged to let a board member know. Any help will also earn you the
clubs undying love. We have lots of it to spread out!!!! (I have no idea
whats up with this funky print size?)
Annual membership is due in July. The cost is still $24 per year. Please see me to
continue your membership or join as a new member.
Many regular Saturday racers are interested in a get together outside of the O.R.C.C.C.
race site. Anyone who would like to join us or has ideas for our shindig, let a board
member know.
Back to the Region 4 race the following areas needs to be quickly organized. We need to
arrange for T-shirts; sponsors; motors and workers. Please help or offer advice, we are
quickly running out of time!!!
Heres a little tidbit I bet most of you didnt know. The meetings are pretty
exciting since we moved to the A to Z location. The location comes with an entertaining
little dog named Sandie. Sandie has a fuzzy bone that she likes to have tossed. Our
creative attendants have managed to hit the ceiling fan (which sends the bone zinging
across the room) and made several attempts at the trashcan. At the last meeting, Susan
Danvers was crowned the "Fuzzy Bone Champion" in that she made a hole in one in
the trashcan!! (sorry that sounds so pornographic!) Feel free to attend our meetings and
take your place in the O.R.C.C.C. history books for your dog bone tossing skills! We do
have a blast and managed to get things accomplished.
Remember last months newsletter? It had a storm cloud and umbrellas on it. I
think I might have some sort of supernatural powers, because it started to rain
immediately and only recently let up! We might become a for profit organization soon!
This months newsletter shows a watermelon in honor of a few members trip to
the annual Watermelon classic race in Aiken, South Carolina. All R/C racers are encouraged
to visit and race at their facility at least once. Youll be hooked like the rest of
us. They have all the conveniences that the state taxes can offer. Their track is almost
twice as big as ours is and it includes many jumps, dips and changes in elevation. They
have lots of heavy equipment for setting up their race track, as well as a cleaning and
mowing staff provided by the park site operator. Aiken is really a nice place and worth a
visit.
Not much else happening. I personally am looking forward to the fall, so that its
not so hot and we can get back to our weekly race schedule. I appreciate all the help at
the track in my absence. Everyone needs to get geared up for September and the busy
schedule needed for a successful Region 4 race. Please feel free to offer suggestions to
improve your track. My phone number is 245-6247. Thanks to you all.
