Hey, me and the dude in the corner want to know where all the racers have gone?? Hopefully, after reading this newsletter, you will want to come to the races. Worst case scenario is that you will hate the newsletter and will want to come to the track and beat me up. Whatever the case, JUST COME TO THE RACETRACK!!

First on the agenda is the St. John Lutheran Laymen’s League. Walter McKee of this organization came to the track to tell us of a donation of RC stuff he received. The club wants to sell the items for cash and thought someone in our club would be interested or would know someone who might be interested. At one time he had a ¼ scale buggy and a helicopter. I’m not sure what is still available for purchase, but Mr. McKee can be reached at 629-2102.

The wacky race day, to be re-named "hackfest" was a blast for those who attended. The first race featured a figure 8 crossway; pink flamingoes on the straight-away; giant plastic bugs and dinosaurs; a set of bowling pins; 2 squeaking alligators and pivoting beach balls. Amazingly, the figure 8 caused not one crash! The flamingoes were toasted after the 2nd lap. To add to the mayhem, the turnmarshalls were armed with nerf guns and were told to shoot at the passing cars. We had a bunch of new racers and spectators and they really got into the madness. The final race was the best race. Blown up balloons were taped to the backs of the cars. The object was to be the last car remaining with an inflated balloon. I kind of felt sorry for the winner of that race. It’s was a young boy new to the sport and some of our local racers were chasing him down like a dog to pop his balloon. He took it like a man and really seemed to enjoy himself. Prizes included a bag of macaroni; an electric guitar; a cellular phone and a Mr. Potato Head watch. Bartering and trading of prizes was the last event of the day. We plan to repeat this type of race periodically. We understand the potential shaving cream obstacle scared some racers away, so we will keep it clean in the future. We will keep you posted of our next such race day. Remember, it’s free to race and includes prizes worth well under $10,000 each!

Our last meeting was held January 20, 1999 at the A 2 Z pest control facilities. Those in attendance were Danny Mayer, Matt Mosieur; Jim Pfeiffer; Randy Bost; Carl Ross; Bonita Hansley; Susan Danvers and Bill Hamilton. The next meeting will be held on February 17th at 7 PM at A 2 Z. Plan to attend.

The date of the state race has changed to September 19th. Conflicting schedules were responsible for the change. We would rather have the race in the spring, but the summer will have to do. Plan to attend and help us pull of a fabulous race!

We are considering a new race schedule for the Ocala track. Since the summer is so miserable at our track and leads to hot tempers and bedlam, we are tentatively planning to shut down the track for club races during July and August. With this shut down, we are considering possible nighttime races at other locations and/or racing one Saturday a month. It really just depends on what the racers want to do and we will try to keep everyone posted!

Don’t forget our new race format of 1 free raceday per month. You never know when it might happen, so show up to see if it’s free!

The last state race and/or series race (I never know which is which!) was attended by many of the Ocala racers. Our very own Dave Carmen placed 6th in the Stock truck A main. Other locals placed in assorted standings, well those that actually raced their race did, didn’t they Danny Mayer!

The Oval track might be in for a facelift!! The condition of our fabulous oval track is showing its age! To this end, we have decided on some possible options to make the track more desirable. First on the agenda is a re-framing job and a re-asphalting job. This should tide us over until more money from oval racing is collected to pay for additional re-work. The re-work plans include possibly filling in the center of the oval, asphalting it and making the track an alternating oval/road course track. Cool, huh. We will designate all money made from the oval racers entry fees to the savings account to pay for the upgrades. THE MORE OVAL RACERS THAT SHOW UP MEANS THE MORE MONEY THERE WILL BE TO PUT IN THE BUILDING FUND. For more information, call Randy Bost or Jim Pfeiffer.

We have decided to appoint oval and off-road liaisons that racers can contact regarding attendance as well as other track related matters. Too many out-of-towners are driving all the way to Ocala, only to have no one to play with. Danny Mayer has agreed to hold this position for the off-road track. We are looking for an oval volunteer.

Remember that the more racers that show up the more efficient and enjoyable the races become. More racers, mean more classes and races. This insures longer breaks between your races and plenty of turnmarshalls so that the race director is not screaming for help. That means that everyone is happy and I am happy!!!! PLAN TO ATTEND THE NEXT RACEDAY!

The races REALLY NEED TO BE STARTING AT 12 PROMPTLY. To assist those who can not make it in time to register and race, feel free to pre-register by calling me at home or e-mailing me at "ORCCC@iname.com". I need to know the class, the frequency and your name!! Don’t make me guess who is leaving the message!! Be specific!!

Thanks for your interest and join us at the track.

Bonita
