Well folks, it’s been a long
time since you were brought up to speed on the best little R/C car club in
Ocala. The last newsletter
was dated November 12 and so much has happened that this will be an
information packed edition.
Our last meeting was held
January 19th. Attendees
included: Jason Autrey, Carl
Ross, Zack Montgomery (Paula popped in and out, too), Bill Hamilton, Danny
Mayer, Melanie Stalnaker, Thomas Hitchcock and myself.
We discussed many club issues that will be described in this
newsletter. The next meeting
is scheduled for Wednesday, February 16th at 7:30 PM at A2Z
Pest Control command central. Plan
to attend!
GROOVY THINGS THAT HAVE
HAPPENED SINCE THE LAST EDITION:
- The
Interfaith Food Bank received a nice donation from the club as a
result of our November tin can drive.
The club was able to donate 3 large boxes of food (about 100
total cans) and $204. During
the drive, race fees were paid with cans of food or cash.
100% of the items collected were then donated.
Interfaith sent a glowing letter thanking the club for their
efforts.
- Big
Sun Volunteer Service Bureau also benefited from the clubs holiday
giving spirit. The race fees during this event were paid in cash, with
100% of the cash going towards the donation.
The $250 the club donated was well received.
- The
Y2K race was held at the Gainesville race facility on December 31,
1999 through January 1, 2000. We
welcomed in the new millennium by hosting the first R/C race in this
country for the next thousand years.
We had quite a blast and found the club was in fact, Y2K
complacent! The results
and pictures of this gala event can be found on the website (www.orccc.org)
by clicking on the link on the homepage.
- We
continue to enjoy parking lot races at Jack’s Hobbies once a month,
around the 2nd or 3rd Sunday of each month.
The results and pictures of each of these races can also be
found on the website. Check
out the “Event Calendar” for the next race date and join us the
next time we race at Jack’s.
- Membership
is at an all time high. We want to welcome all of these new racers and
we hope to have them as part of our club for years to come.
We also enjoy having our members renew their memberships and
continue to appreciate all of their hard work in making the ORCCC the
best little R/C car club in Ocala!
Those interested in membership (fees & benefits) are
urged to check out the website and click on the membership application
button.
- Oh,
yeah, we also celebrated two of the biggest holidays in the Western
Hemisphere and welcomed in a new century to boot!
We hope everyone enjoyed a fabulous holiday season.
POINTS OF INTEREST:
- Jack’s
Hobbies on-line store is getting closer to becoming a reality.
After much research and a few meetings, word is that Bill
Hamilton, Jack Martin and Paul Wynn are almost ready to start setting
up the store. Imagine
shopping from your very own easy chair!
Ain’t technology grand!
We’ll keep you posted as to where you can find his store on
the World Wide Web.
- The
ORCCC will host the 4th race of the Florida State Off-Road
Series on Sunday, April 9th.
Flyers and information will be mailed out in a little over a
month and the website will be chocked full of information on this
exciting race. The ORCCC
has hosted quite a few of these races and really enjoys the influx of
racers from the entire Region IV area.
Plan to race with us or just join us to watch, as this race is
sure to be exciting!
- The
club is still selling their cool T-shirts for $14 each (racer, dog,
truck and ORCCC banner on the back, the website address on the sleeve
and the state of Florida and your name on the front).
For an additional $5, you can have this setup enhanced by a
graphic of your choice (within reason!).
ORDER NOW!
- The
website is the most complete source for information on the club.
Many upgrades are added each week, so check it out often.
The site is expanding constantly, but let us know if there is
something you’d like to see added.
About the only thing not
covered so far in this edition is the new site location on the back 40 of
the A2Z Pest Control office. Due
to the holidays, we experienced quite a lag in getting started.
As noted in past newsletters, our first task is getting the power
pole placed. Through the
efforts of Danny Mayer and his trusty engineering consultant counterpart,
Jason Autrey, it looks as if our biggest hurdle is about to be overcome
and the site is soon to be a reality.
The club wants to do everything within code and sometimes this
takes time and a lot of phone calls!
After the power is installed, everything else is just going to
slide into place. Even though
we didn’t make it to the new location before the Y2K race, the ORCCC is
committed to having the site up and running by the State series race on
April 9th (hopefully much sooner).
It’s going to be such an awesome set up and we can’t wait for
the unveiling.
This is a good time to thank all
the work and diligence of the computer dude, the pres, the worker bees,
the clean up crew and the racers. Without
all of you folks, this wouldn’t be a club, it would be a bunch of people
racing cars…hey, wait a minute, we ARE a bunch of people racing cars!
Oh well, we’d be an unorganized mob…hey, wait a minute….no,
we’re NOT an unorganized mob! The club is actually made up of good people with a common
interest of racing and having fun. JOIN
US FOR OUR NEXT ADVENTURE IN R/C RACING (or check out the races on the
website and pretend you were there)!
