OCALA RADIO CONTROLLED CAR CLUB- ONLINE EDITION

February 26, 1999

The following, beautifully arranged newsletter will contain lots of good stuff on the hottest racetrack this side of the Mississippi! First on the agenda, due to an outpouring of whining and to spite Matt Mosieur, Bill and myself have decided to continue our participation with the club!! We wanted complaining and begging so that we really knew you guys would miss us, but alas, that did not happen. We are going to stay with the club until you really need us and then leave you guys hanging with your pants down. Aren’t we just the nicest folks you’ve ever met?? Before I continue, let me state that the following text is not necessarily the opinion of Bill and myself, just mostly myself, since I type faster than he does! Really, Bill is the nice one. I’m the one you need to worry about!

The latest meeting was held on February 17, 1999. Those in attendance were Danny Mayer, Mason McCombs, Randy Bost, Bonita Hansley, Carl Ross and Bill Hamilton. Much fun was had by all and we even discussed a few things related to the club! Carl, Bill and myself thought that having pizza delivered from the place next door might make things more enjoyable. We previewed the pizza after everyone left last week and gave it 3 thumbs up. Maybe we will have food at the next meeting, maybe we won’t and maybe we’ll just wait until you guys leave again. SHOW UP TO FIND OUT. The next meeting will be held on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, March 17th, at 7 PM at A 2 Z Pest Control command central.

THE BIG THANKS SECTION. Make sure you guys take the time to thank some of the folks at the track that I feel have really done a swell job. The oval track maintenance team that assembled on February 6th really did a great job of getting the oval back up to snuff. Those to thank include James Keith, Randy Bost, Billy Newhouse, Jim Pfeiffer, Carl Ross and Rod Berkheimer. Randy Bost performed yet another feat. He emptied all the trashcans, all at the same time, so that the entire site was trash free for a whole 2-3 days. On the same topic, we are considering doing away with most of the trashcans. The number will be scaled down to 5 barrels with liners so that folks might be more likely to empty the trash more often. Anyone needing free 55 gallon drums and drum covers, let us know and you can have them!

Racers interested in racing some Saturday, but who want to know what’s going on before making the effort, can now contact a "liaison" to get the skinny. We hate for racers to travel from out of town only to find out there is a series race somewhere else that is being attended by all racers of a certain class. The liaison for the oval track is Randy Bost and the off-road liaison is Danny Mayer. We hope this helps.

On the topic of Bill and I quitting the club, an interesting thought came up. If a racer does not feel like racing or can’t race a particular Saturday, he just doesn’t show up. Carl Ross, Bill Hamilton, other track maintenance folks and myself do not have that luxury without really messing up a race day. Equipment and chores need to be performed by all of these useful folks that will insure a great race day. To help the "burnout" syndrome that accompanies this kind of commitment, the club is looking for VOLUNTEERS. We would like someone, whether it be a racer or a complete stranger to the sport, who would help out every other Saturday or so for 5-6 hours per day. We are looking into various perks, besides a hotdog and soda, to offer these folks for their time and effort. If a family member of a racer wants something to do and wants to help out, maybe a free annual membership for the racer would sweeten the deal. Anyone interested is urged to contact me and basically name your ideas that would persuade you to help out so that our "regulars" get a break from the grind. The work is actually fun, but when it becomes as mandatory as your paying job, the fun ends.

Various forms of track maintenance are needed. A new switch in the computer room, new coax cable for the transponder system needs to be laid, better use of the speakers available, fill in holes under the pipes on the off-road track and basically an overhaul of the handicapped drivers stand are the most pressing chores that need to be done. Danny Mayer is back at the site and is ready and willing to head up a repair team. The maintenance will be for the good of the track so plan to help out.

THE ORCCC HAS OFFICIALLY MOVED INTO CYBERSPACE!!!!!!!!! In an effort to make this club one of the most up-to-date, snafu clubs o’ the century, Bill’s taking us to the worldwide forum. I.E. the Internet! The ORCCC has its very own e-mail address. The club can be reached any time of the day or night at ORCCC@iname.com . Someone at command central will try to respond to these contacts every now and again, so just hold your horses. As of this day, I will no longer answer the phone at home, ‘cause you know how to reach me now and I don’t have to be in a good mood to answer e-mail. In fact, I don’t even have to like you to answer your e-mail and it’s easier to fake it in cyberspace. Love ya, mean it!! BUT THE MOST EXCITING NEWS OF ALL…………(DRUM ROLL PLEASE)………..is that we have a stinking Web site, man!!! We did some research to find a free site that didn’t require those stinky ad banners and faithful member Mason McCombs turned us on to XOOM.COM. Everything you ever wanted to know about the Ocala club and any and everything even remotely related to it, can be accessed at http://members.xoom.com/ORCCC . Remember that the ORCCC at the end HAS TO BE CAPITALIZED TO REACH THE SITE. There will be links to other sites, past and current newsletters, fun and wacky stuff (well, it’s fun and wacky to us, your opinion means nothing), muzak, all kinds of up-to-date information and even a "name the mascot" contest that will be explained on the website. I wanted to put a recipe for "Hot dog surprise Casserole" on the site, but mean Bill won’t let me. Send in your cards and letters if you would like to see my tasty recipes on the site!! Check us out, e-mail us, let us know what you think (Bill might welcome your opinion and comments even though I already told you I don’t). The gameplan is to e-mail the newsletter to individuals with this capability to eliminate the expense of mailing and to provide these individuals with a "special and more exciting" edition of the monthly newsletter. Let us know what you think, send us your e-mail address AND MOST IMPORTANTLY COME SEE US AT THE RACES ANY AND ALMOST EVERY SATURDAY AT 11 A.M. PROMPTLY!!

Bonita
