Well, well, well, look what finally came in the mailbox!! The
monthly newsletter which is 2 months late! I just had to get it
mailed out before 1999. My standards are low, that is why I stay so
pleased with myself. Let me start off by apologizing for such a
lousy job at my post. After the Region 4 race, I was all R/Ced out!
It took me a while to get back in the groove and thank all of our
racers for sticking in there and not impeaching me! There is a lot
of that going around!
I’ll try to cram 2 months of news in 3 pages, so pay close
attention. I’ll keep my flowery comments and descriptions to a
minimum and just give the facts, nothing but the facts. (But don’t
quote me on that)
Correction: Mason McCombs attended the October 21st meeting and
his name was inadvertently omitted. We apologize for any
inconvenience this may have caused.
Billy Newhouse is proud to announce that on October 31st his
pancar prostock vehicle turned 53 laps in 5.04.61. Last I heard he
was retiring from the oval track to try his hand at off-road. Way to
go Billy!
HOT DIGGIDY DAWG!!!! WE WERE A REGION 4 HIT!!! I am truly
amazed and happy that we were able to pull off such a fabulous
weekend. I think fun was had by all and no one at the ORCCC wants to
try that EVER AGAIN! ! ! I think we should stop while we are ahead!
Special thanks for their tireless effort goes to: JAMES KEITH, BILL
LAIR, MASON MCCOMBS, BILL HAMILTON, SAM HAND (the dad), SUSAN
DANVERS AND HER ENTIRE FAMILY, CARL ROSS, DAVE SCRAMBLING AND MANY
OTHERS THAT I AM TOTALY ALIENATING BY FAILING TO MENTION THEIR NAME!
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Region 4 leftovers include T—shirts (available for $10) and
motors (available for $17). See Carl if you would like to purchase
any of these items. Too bad I didn’t get the newsletter out before
Christmas.... you could have done all your holiday shopping at the
ORCCC store. Imagine how many excited wives/girlfriends there would
have been on Christmas day when they unwrapped that Midnight !!!!
The November meeting was held on a Wednesday, the date of which
escapes me (I keep such accurate records!) Those in attendance were
Danny Mayer, Susan Danvers, Carl Ross, Matt Mosieur and myself.
Several topics were discussed, but most of them were not related to
the club, so we won' t
even go there!! We always have
fun, though, so plan to attend the next meeting on January 20th, a
Wednesday, at A 2 Z pest Control.
The ORCCC will be hosting the State Race on May 23rd. Mark your
calendars to attend and help us with a successful race. As more info
becomes available, I’ll keep you guys posted. We seem to do a fine
job when we plan at the last minute, so I think we will stick with
that game plan!!
IMPORTANT RACE SCHEDULE:
We are not racing on January 2nd!
We will race every
Saturday after that as far as I know.
New race format to encourage attendance and keep me from having
to do so much banking! We are going to have 5 balls (or whatever we
come up with) to signify each Saturday of a month. (I know, when
there is only 4 Saturdays, there will only be 4 balls. I’m not
stupid, gees.) 1 of the balls is "special". Every Saturday, we will
pick a ball. If the "special" ball is picked the races are FREE FOR
EVERYONE ATTENDING. Every time a ball is picked it is removed from
the pot and thus increases the odds that a "special" ball will be
picked the next week. The minimum number of balls in the pot will be
one regular ball and one "special" ball.
Due to his high accident ratio, CARL ROSS IS FORBIDDEN TO DO
TRACTOR DUTY. Anyone who sees Carl on the tractor is advised to
flash this newsletter in his face and demand he remove his behind
from the tractor pronto!
JANUARY 9TH IS WACKY RACE DAY. The race is free to
attendants. The games begin at noon. The off-road will be converted
to a figure 8 format, complete with a shaving cream pit and
"mystery" obstacles that must be avoided. It's going to be a messy
smash up type race, so bring your old, expendable vehicle to race.
Many prices will be awarded, all well worth less than $10,000. Some
prizes will even be edible! We hope to have a large crowd to
increase the mayhem. Suggestions are welcome, as are workers to make
sure this is a totally fun and useless day!
Before I wrap up this exciting periodical, two high fives need to
be given to a couple of our local racers. At the Region 4 race, two
locals placed in the A mains. Dave Carmen and Caleb O’Hara were the
only "locals" to accomplish this goal. Dave is a great racer, but
special consideration needs to be given to Caleb due to his young
age. Caleb Blaze O’Hara is only 10 years old and was born here in
Ocala. He has been racing since February 1998 and has already won a
Novice, stock truck point series at the ORCCC. His brand of choice
is Associated and he prefers the T3. His favorite food is Pizza and
his beverage ‘o choice is Pepsi. He currently races stock truck, but
plans to move into modified truck soon. His goal is to win in the
stock truck class at Winterchamps and to secure a Team Associated
sponsorship. Good luck to you, Caleb. Don’t forget where you
started!!
That’s all I have this time. Anyone wanting to ask questions or
offer helpful comments is urged to attend the races and/or meetings.
As a last resort, you can call me at home or E-mail me at
ORCCC@iname.com . Please
join us at the track for some fun.
