A meeting was held by the what WILL again be “best
little r/c car club in Ocala” on May 12th at 7:00 PM. Since we
are holding regular races, it seems appropriate to have regular meetings
to discuss a few ground rules for our latest venture into r/c nirvana.
Attendees were: Carl Ross, Bill Hamilton, Bonita Hamilton, James
Tate, James Rainey, Danny Mayer, Ray Raines, Gary Miller, “Electric”
Dave McCarson, Alex Melendez and “City” Daniel (who’s last name I cannot
remember!)
Here’s the latest for folks who haven’t kept up with
the club. The club (okay, Danny and a few others who don’t mind driving
down back roads with driver’s stands hanging off a trailer) has relocated
about 80% of the track from the A2Z Race Park site to our new home at the
Ocala Regional Sportsplex located at 3500 SW 67th Avenue. The
phone number is 352-873-6569. We’ve got a little bit of work left to do at
A2Z to make our transformation complete, but it will all be worth while!
Our new home is a sight to behold, with softball fields, basketball courts,
playgrounds, picnic areas, wide-open spaces, concessions and flushing
toilets. We are uptown, baby! The sight is kept immaculate; free from
signs, debris and clutter. The Ocala R/C Car Club is going to have to work
diligently to keep our site in form with our surroundings. Trash pick up,
electricity and mowing are all included, which will cut down on club
expenses. So far, the city has been very patient with our slow process and
has made us all feel very welcome. It’s a win, win situation for the city
and ourselves.
Effective today, “electric” Dave and his merry band of
helpers (which are probably not very happy and not enough folks to be
considered a band….) will have the electric completed in time for the races
on May 14th. AND IT WAS!!! We only had a few weeks of
generators, but who noticed that noise when you’ve got the roar of nitro
singing in your ears! Thanks a million times over to all the electrical
folks, building folks, clay folks, irrigation folks and every one else that
helped in getting this show on the road.
NEW BUSINESS:
The club membership will stand as is until July 1st
2005. The cost will remain $24 per year, with a $2.00 proration per
month. Membership is calculated by multiplying the number of months,
following the month you join, remaining in the year until the following
June. We will hold elections soon for the July 2005 thru June 2006 year.
***More to follow on that.
It was decided by vote that the city would receive
50% of the membership fees and 50% of the race fees. This agreement
will be renegotiated, if necessary, June 2006. This is really a steal, at
any price, if you consider the endless perks available being affiliated with
the City of Ocala Parks and Recreation Department, especially when hosting
ROAR races in the future! There is talk of a paid ORCCC membership
including a City of Ocala “goodie bag” complete with a 1-year pass for
entrance into the Sportsplex. Usually, there is a $1 admission fee, which
is really a bargain, but even a buck adds up if you come to the park once a
month for a year.
***Again, more details as they become available.
Effective July 1st 2005, club races are
at the following rates:
Nonmember: 1st class $10.00 2nd class
$8.00 3rd class FREE!!! (ten eight free
Member: 1st class $ 7.00 2nd class $7.00 3rd
class FREE!!! (seven seven free) NO REFUNDS IF YOU CROSS THE START LINE
We’re trying to locate a famous celebrity to do a
couple of commercials, like the phone company does………but we probably only
have enough of a budget for Carrot Top!!
Regular meetings will be held at the track on the
third Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM. Next meeting will be June 16th.
We race every Saturday at 1:00 SHARP. Registration
starts at 12:00 NOON. ***Lighting is in the works to avoid the summer
heat, but we’ll have to stick it out this summer.
***Permanent covered pits are also on the agenda. (Dang, I see a really big
bake sale!!!)
The city will provide additional trash cans for our
convenience.
***There is talk of having a “special” race every 4th
Saturday of the month.
The city concession stand is usually only open until
noon on Saturday, but they’ve agreed to keep it open until 2:00. That
too will change when we get going full steam.
***The future will hold a concession/facilities
(snicker, you know what I mean) building closer to the track.
NOTE: items notated with “***” will be discussed as
old business at the next meeting.
Hope to see
you at the races.
