So much is going on at the track that this
newsletter is going to be a juicy, informative one! Maybe not very
interesting, but it will be informative!
We had 2 meeting this month, due to the work that needs to be done
for the Region 4 race in November. Our regular meeting was held on Wednesday
August 19th at A to Z Pest Control headquarters. Attendees were Matt, Scott,
Danny, Bill Lair, Bill Hamilton, Susan, Dave Scrambling, Carl and Bonito. We
had another meeting to discuss our progress on August 26th and had Matt,
Scott, Bill Hamilton, Susan, Dave Scrambling, Travis, Carl, Bonito and Randy
Bost in attendance. The next meeting is scheduled for SEPTEMBER 17TH AT
7P.M.!!!
New members for this past month are Caleb, Dylan and Shawn O’Hara;
Bill Johnson; Zack Montgomery; Jon & Norm Hoover; Pat Sanzone and Danny
Mayer. Welcome these folks and help out all the newcomers to the sport
‘cause remember when you first started!!
Effective Saturday September 5th, the club will return to racing
every Saturday. I swear, we are eventually going to have some cool weather
and even the non-paid folks won’t mind being at the track every Saturday!!
VANDALISM AT THE TRACK IS AT AN ALL TIME HIGH. OUR STORAGE
FACILITIES HAVE BEEN BROKEN INTO MANY TIMES BEFORE, BUT NOW AN ACTUAL
THEFT OF SOME ITEMS HAS OCCURRED. FOR THIS REASON, THE PROBLEM IS NOW IN
THE HANDS OF THE POLICE. I URGE EVERY MEMBER TO CALL THE POLICE TO
REPORT THESE ACTS IF YOU WITNESS THEM. THOSE WITH LEADS, PLEASE FEEL
FREE TO CALL THE POLICE AS WELL. STEALING IS STEALING AND DAMAGING
PROPERTY THAT IS NOT YOURS IS A CRIME AND IT WILL BE TREATED AS SUCH AT
THE O.R.C.C.C.
One more complaint before we get to the good stuff. The O.R.C.C.C.
has elected officials that hold various jobs for the club. Scott Lair is
currently the off road track director. Before changes are made to the track,
please contact Scott at 245-6247. This is even more important than ever
before as we gear up for the Region 4 Race in November. Whatever is done to
the track is voted on by racers/board members at the monthly meetings. If
you want to see a change made on the racetrack, attend the meetings and let
your voice be heard.
Many people have been bustin’ their booties in preparation for the
Region 4 Race in November. The majority of these bootie busters have
attended the last two meetings. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO THANK THESE PEOPLE FOR
THEIR DEDICATION TO YOUR CLUB. So much has happened that I can’t wait to
share the news. We’ve sent letters to the R/C manufacturers for sponsorship
and have had a raving success. So far, our participants have included Team
Losi, Pro-line tires; Robinson Racing; Futaba; Team Associated and Tekin.
We’ve got banners; gift certificates; freebies and much more from these
folks. Gadzooks, I loovvveee free stuff! Locally, we’ve gotten responses to
our letters from Holiday Inn-Silver Springs; Holiday Inn-Express and Silver
Springs Attractions. Susan Danvers is in the process of door-to-door
campaigning for sponsorship. Every business she goes to, she is asking for
assistance. Personally, I am a letter writing type of person, but to those
of you with Susan’s persistence and talent I urge you to follow her lead.
Registrations are being mailed out as you read this. Our talented
Vice President whipped up these beauties. I would have never pegged Carl as
the computer type and it’s really weird how he calls himself "Bonnie" when
he is working on the computer!! We sent a mass mailing to R/C car sounding
hobby shops listed on the internet (provided by Susan and her computer
friendly brother, Bill) and to all the Region 4 clubs listed in Rev-Up.
Attached to this newsletter is a lilac (no, it is NOT pink) registration for
you to join in the race. Please mail it in promptly and do not point out the
typos!
Susan and Carl are arranging the race T-shirts. We have a groovy
design with the state, Region 4 and our club’s name going on the back and an
impressive list of sponsors going on the front. The design came from Travis
and Dave Scrambling and their sister/daughter. They are going to be sooooo
cooool. We might have some extras to sell after the big event, so get your
orders in if you would like to own a piece of history.
Jack and Matt are arranging handout motors. They are diligently
trying to get us the best quality motors at the cheapest price. We are
planning to buy about 200 motors, with the extras after the race to be sold
at the discounted "race-day" price of $17 each.
Plaques for the race are our last biggest expense for the race.
Currently we are going to buy plaques for positions 1-10 for mains A & B for
the 5 classes we are running. As registrations start pouring in, we will add
to our count. If anyone knows of a special trophy place, let me know. We
usually use BJ’s Trophies next to Jack’s Hobbies, but when you are buying
this much stuff for such an important race, you want quality at a discount
price. (I sound like an advertisement for Wal-Mart!)
Next time you racers are in Coral Springs racing, extend a "thank
you" to John Argentino. He has been such a help in our set up process for
this race. We’ve called him numerous times and he is always helpful and
courteous. Too bad he doesn’t want to move to Ocala and be part of our
club!! Maybe he has a twin brother that lives here?? It would be our luck,
it would be his EVIL twin! Thanks, John!
To all you Oval racers where are you!!?? The off-road folks miss
you guys, because they never have a break between qualifiers any more. I’m
sure they miss you for other reasons, but I’ll just state the most obvious.
We want to hit you guys up for work at the November 4th race also! Randy
Bost of Oval fame has volunteered each and every one of you guys to help in
Tech, Radio Impound and the like. Just joking, Randy wouldn’t do such a
thing. BUT I WILL!! ha.
One more note and I will close. We are also trying to obtain a set
of bleachers for the November race. Wouldn’t it be cool to actually have a
place for spectators to sit!! I’m still in the process of locating the chick
that handles the bleachers for the City. It appears to be her full time job
and she was at some sort of seminar this week. I’m not going to comment on
that one!
Thanks to all our hard workers and we hope to see all of you at
the races. Please note the changes to the facility the next time you race.
We are trying to clean up and repair the damage made by our vandals.
