Here’s the latest "dirt" on Ocala’s finest r/c facility.

Our most recent meeting was held at the McPherson complex on April 15th. Those in attendance were: Matt M., Danny Mayer, Scott air and myself, Jim Pfeiffer, Carl Ross, Bill Lair, Angel and Rick Eggers. As usual we had a spirited meeting and look forward to seeing all of you at the next meeting to be held on May 13th.

DATES YOU SHOULD REMEMBER AND FORGET:

Leisurefest has been cancelled by the city. May 2nd will be a regular race day at the O.R.C.C.C.

Home Depot Classy Chassis Extravaganza----September 26th

Florida State Series---May 16th and 17th

Region 4 off-road race at our facility----November 7th and 8th

THINGS THAT NEED TO BE CLARIFIED:

The 1/2 price racing fee discussed in last month’s newsletter is for NOVICE RACERS ONLY!!!

The point series is running EVERY SATURDAY and our regular race schedule is on alternate Saturdays. We will be fully staffed every weekend, so oval folks visit us whenever you can even if it’s not a regular race day.

The plan to increase membership is as follows if you get a racer to JOIN the O.R.C.C.C. , you qualify for a FREE RACE DAY!!!!

The latest plan is to split the mains whenever more than 7 racers register in a class.

Cussing and lewd hand gestures need to stop. The club is supposed to be a family type facility, yet profanity is a severe problem. Please remember where you before you open your mouth!!! Heaven knows I will try to remember. Feel free to remind me! Thanks.

The decision to bring back the 50/50 drawing was decided. The deal is we sell tickets for $1 per or 6 for $5. The total take is split 50/50 between the club and the winning ticket holder. The 2nd ticket picked (try saying that fast 10 times!!!) gets the ticket holder a free race!!! Angel Eggers, in the concession area, has agreed to take on the duties of this venture. Again, we thank Angel for all her work!!

Due to the low number of officials at events, a member has agreed to take on some of the workload. "Matt the Mediator" is this newest official!! Matt has agreed to listen to and help resolve some of our more complex race day dilemmas!!

Kids on and around the concession/computer area need to be limited!! Due to our unfortunate accident a couple of weeks ago, Angel Eggers mentioned and everyone agreed that it is really dangerous for kids to be in these areas. We are all sorry that Angel had to take all the "heat" from the crock pot incident, but we all decided that it would have been much worse if it had been one of the little ones. Please police your children as needed. Thanks.

A workday needs to be scheduled prior to the May 16-17 race. The concession area is ready to collapse and the other areas aren’t doing much better. Those wanting to volunteer their time and/or their supplies are greatly appreciated. Danny Mayer has already got a jump on the improvements, but a Sunday before the big race would be appropriate to spruce the place up!!! We’ll keep you posted and will announce the workday shortly.

Another procedure of the race needs to be mentioned. The 2nd qualifiers will be inverted from this day forward, amen. That just means the lineup will be from high number to low number on the second qualifier. It would probably be a good idea to remind the race director and computer operator of this change. I have a feeling we are the reason this race tactic has not been used lately!!

Teching during the point series has been overlooked for some reason. Not anymore, guys and girls!!! Randy Bost of Pancar fame, has agreed to handling the tech process. If you place in the first 3 positions in the mains during the point series, keep your vehicle in the concession area for proper teching. Fair is fair and this rule is most important.

The possibility of having to move our facility was mentioned again at the latest meeting. With the development of the surrounding complex, we feel it is only a matter of time before the O.R.C.C.C. get's the old heave ho!! To this end, Matt M. has agreed to contact the R/C plane people to see if there is any chance on this earth that the two clubs can cohabitate. Randy Bost has agreed to contact his buddy Jim Lowry of the city (i.e. our landlord) to check on alternate locations and a possible moving date. I have been elected to contact some guy in the Sharpe’s Ferry area about a location. Anyone with ideas or a desire to be the contact person, let an official know and we will get you busy!!

Due to the high number of new novice racers, we find ourselves with an equally high number of new turnmarshalls. Please feel free to coach these new guys not only in the fine art of R/C, but also the importance of the turnmarshalling job. Also refrain from heckling these folks as they’re turnmarshalling your vehicle. We were all new at one time!!!!

That wraps up this month of news. I apologize if this newsletter comes off as whining and complaining!!! We are all doing our best in keeping the masses informed of our facility. I personally want to thank Angel Eggers, Bill Hamilton and especially Susan Danvers for their constant support and assistance. Please thank these people the next time you see them, for going that extra mile to make the O.R.C.C.C. a great place to race. (Gads, I think I’m going to cry)

Hurry Back, Steve.
