Well, its time again for the monthly newsletter to keep all you folks
informed of whats happening at the "best little R/C car club in
Ocala"! Theres a whole lot going on
.so fasten your seatbelts
and hold on while I try to run through it all!
Our latest meeting was postponed for two reasons this month. First, Carl had
an illness in the family and this made the meeting site unavailable. Second, the
new Star Wars movie opened that day and we just had to go! Ill try not to
schedule meetings during these important times in the future! The meeting was
held on May 26th at A 2 Z Pest Control headquarters. Those in
attendance were myself, Carl Ross, Bill Hamilton, Danny Mayer, Darcy Mayer,
Reece Mayer, Mason McCombs and Susan and Melissa Danvers. Plan to attend the
next meeting on June 16th at 7 PM.
I need to re-cap some of last months topics to let you know whats
happening, in case you havent heard. The Jacks
Hobbies page on the web-site should be up and running within the next
week or two, so check the home page for that addition.
The repair to the oval by Wilson Asphalt was done and it is a success. Weve
had quite a turnout of pancar racers and hope to have additional types of
on-road cars running at the track soon. Member Tim Richardets cousin was the
lucky purchaser of the replacement laptop from Staples. This enabled us
to recoup the cost of the new laptop that was purchased a few months ago.
The Ironman Series is off and running, with 3 of the 14 races
completed. Weve had 23 entries in the series. Click
here for up-to-date standings.
The race at Tuscawilla Park is June 26th, our last official
race before our summer schedule begins. The web-site devotes a section to this
event on the current events page and additional
information is available here. For those who are
computer challenged (go ahead and admit it, I did years ago and I couldnt be
happier!), heres the skinny: Registration at 8 AM; races at about 10 AM at a
flat $10 race fee. We will run 3 qualifiers and a main. Well run whatever you
bring. The recreation and parks department (hosts of this event) are providing a
banner, the fire hose, a drivers stand, lots of shade and cool beverages.
Danny Mayer has put a lot of work into scheduling this event, so show your
support by planning to attend!
It is time to vote for new ORCCC officers!!! Voting will be done by
completing the official voting ballot and handing it to Carl Ross or myself or
by mailing it to the ORCCC at P.O. Box 70166, Ocala, FL 34470. Club members will
either be mailed a ballot or receive one at the track. Those individuals
interested in holding positions are shown on the ballot, as well as an available
space for a write-in person of your choice. The write-in nominees with the most
votes will be notified by phone of their selection and asked if they are in fact
interested in holding the position. Those who decline will allow the nominee
with the next highest number of votes to be offered the post and so on. Voting
ends on Wednesday, June 30th with the winners announced via letter
format. The only way to vote is by using the official ballot. Xerox copies
will not be accepted.
The one day a month free race day schedule has been postponed until the
completion of the Ironman Series.
The club is changing their format regarding racing fees to first time racers
at our track. You will NO LONGER race for free your first time at the
track. We will ONLY offer one free race day for new membership and
renewal membership to the ORCCC. Also, family memberships will ONLY include
the members spouse and children under 18 years of age. All other family
members must join separately.
Our next big event is the final state series race on July 10th.
Heres how that race is shaping up. We will offer registration both on-line
and at the track on Saturday July 9th from 12 to 4 PM and Sunday July 10th from
7 AM to 9 AM. The race fee for that day will be $10 per class and ROAR
membership is required. There will be no radio impound. The track will be open
for practice on Saturday from 8 AM until 4 PM (the track maintenance crew will
be doing their thing from 4 until dark). Races start on Sunday at 10 AM. Drinks
will be available on Saturday from 12 to 4 PM and drinks and food will be
available all day on Sunday. We still need volunteers to assist us in tech and
transponders.
Hopefully, this covers it all! Please forgive me if I have omitted or deleted
anything. Feel free to contact us at staff@orccc.org
or call us on the OFFICIAL ORCCC HOTLINE at 352-369-1895.
